"Don't waste a minute not being happy. If one window closes, run to the next window- or break down a door."

Hey everyone! My name is Jamiel Shipman, I am 20 years old and from Charlotte, North Carolina. I am a junior pursing a degree in psychology with a minor in leadership studies. I originally came to UNCW with an interest in marine biology but once I took Intro to Psychology that all changed. My ultimate goal with my degree in psychology would be to open up my own practice specializing in either child psychology or relationship therapy.
On campus you may see me around as a lobby desk attendant for the Student Recreation Center, a My Stand Mentor through the CARE office, and a Peer Mentor through the Upperman African American Cultural Center. I love to laugh and have a good time, travel, listen to music, hang out with friends, watch Netflix and TV in general (Food Network and HGTV are my favorites) and spend time soaking up the sun at the beach. I love sunsets and have a fascination with clouds, which is why I have put some of the pictures I have taken below (minus the Lion King picture). My favorite and the best movie ever is The Lion King, if you could not already tell, so I will incorporate that into class somehow. My biggest piece of advice that I can give to any incoming freshman is to not be afraid to be involved! There are so many options and opportunities for involvement on this campus that it is hard to ever be bored and not meet new people. My favorite place to study on campus would be the breezeway between the two Fisher buildings. My favorite UNCW tradition would undoubtedly be Beach Blast because who wouldn't want to spend a day at the beach with hundreds of fellow Seahawks. One thing that I would hope to accomplish before graduation is to positively impact someone's life in someway and I am not 100% sure what that will look like but I will hopefully be able to recognize it when it does. I hope that you all are as excited as I am for you to be at UNCWonderful and I can't wait to have an awesome semester together! |
